Garden Close Improvement
The garages at Garden Close are old, in poor condition, and in need of significant investment. Following a review, a decision has been made to demolish these garages.
After considering a number of options, we've decided that the best option is to 're-purpose' this area and create some much needed parking for the residents of Garden Close, whilst also carrying our some simple improvements.
We'd like your thoughts on our proposals, summarised as follows:
- The creation of 11 new parking spaces (including 1 accessible space) in place of the 10 garages.
- New external steps giving easy access from parking to the rear of the housing block.
- New brickwork wall built along and above existing retaining wall.
- Improved lighting and hand rails for safety and security.
- Removal of excess vegetation at the rear of the housing block.
Take a look at the plans attached below, and then let us know your views on these proposals. Whilst we're not looking to make significant changes to our plans, we would welcome your thoughts around safety and security, as well as any low cost additions you may wish for us to consider.

Outcomes
Thanks to everyone who viewed and took part in the consultation for this project.
Next steps:
- Our plans have not changed based on what you’ve told us, and the supportive comments we’ve received (see above for details of the plans).
- We’ll look to commence work on site in January 2024. This will start with the removal of the tree, with further demolition of the garages and associated works following shortly. We’ll write to affected residents when a date has been set, outlining any minimal disruption.
- We were asked to consider electric vehicle charging points as a potential improvement to our plans. We are working across services to come up with a unified solution on approach to provision of equipment, cost charging software/app provider and paying for the nominal standing charge for electric supply for the future. Whilst we haven’t received demand for such at Garden Close, we will investigate whether a supply point could be connected in the future.
If things change, we’ll let you know on here, or directly with the residents affected by the plans. But we hope that over the coming months, residents will see and benefit from the improvements being made.
If you’d like to discuss the plans, please email RI@nfdc.gov.uk and we’ll make sure someone gets back to you.
