Willow Tree House - Allocation of homes

Currently, Willow Tree House has a restriction attached which means that we can only allocate these homes to those that are over 45 years of age.

At NFDC, the Council want to make sure that we’re creating communities and using our homes to enable local people in the most housing need access safe, affordable secure accommodation. We’ve been reviewing Willow Tree House and feel that restricting access to these homes to those that are aged over 45 years doesn’t allow us to achieve these aims. So, we’re proposing to lift that age restriction and utilise the homes here for families, couples and individuals who are most in need.

We’re asking for your thoughts and concerns to inform how we undertake this change, and how we can reassure residents who may have any concerns about what this means for them and their community. We want you to let us know by taking our short 3 question survey.

If you'd like to talk about this in more detail, please call our friendly team on 02380 285222 or email TenantEngagement@nfdc.gov.uk.

Thanks to everyone who took part and let us know your thoughts. We have now concluded our consultation regarding the future allocation of homes at Willow Tree House.

We'd like to offer a personal thanks to everyone who took part and gave us your honest views and concerns. Through the consultation and your feedback, we were able to establish that, whilst the homes at Willow Tree being allocated to those most in need, and with a local connection was supported - there were concerns raised specifically regarding the assessment of future tenants and ensuring that homes were not allocated to those who may cause anti-social behaviour in the community.

Taking your views into account, we will now lift the previous age restriction that was imposed on Willow Tree House. This will enable a wider nomination and allocation of the homes at Willow Tree for those in the most housing need in the community.

To reassure residents and the wider community, we will, alongside lifting the age restriction, fully consider each candidate in accordance with the Allocations Policy when letting vacant properties which will aim to address those concerns raised and, where possible, minimise the risk of future anti-social behaviour at the scheme.

What does this mean in reality? It means that anyone in housing need in the community can and will be nominated and allocated a home at Willow Tree House, regardless of age. We hope that this will create a diverse and cohesive community at Willow Tree, and one that residents can be proud to call home.

Thank you once again for taking the time to help influence our decision making, and for your helpful feedback.
